Do you have a keen gardener or three on your Christmas gift list? Need advice on the best products and gadgets to buy? Good news; we’ve got all the insights you could ever need. We’ve been on a search for the coolest gifts for gardeners and uncovered some truly fascinating products. With our help, you’re guaranteed to find the perfect present.

These days, gardening gifts are so much more than trowels and aprons. There are gadgets designed to make your outdoor space look prettier.

Other gardening gadgets extend its use so cookouts, al fresco parties and family gatherings can continue long into the evening. Some gardening products bring a sense of personality and fun which is just as important.

Take a look at our list of cool gifts for gardeners to find the ideal product for your loved one:

1. Miniature Greenhouse

Gardeners with a limited amount of outdoor space can still achieve their cabbage patch dreams with a miniature greenhouse. These itty bitty structures are, on average, around six square feet.

This means they’re ideal for use on patios, decks and even balconies. In other words, with a mini greenhouse you don’t even technically need a garden. Swiss chard, spinach, kale and other salad vegetables can easily thrive in a scaled down environment.

2. Glass Drink Dispenser

A glass drink dispenser is a handy addition to any outdoor event. Not only does it reduce the amount of serving time in the kitchen, but it also allows guests to help themselves in a very practical and hygienic way.

If you buy a glass dispenser with a tap mechanism on the front, there’s a significantly lower risk of spills, dirty hands in the drinks and…let’s face it, hard work for the host. Who wants to spend their party pouring drinks?

3. Bird Box Video Camera

Some of the most interesting gifts for gardeners are those which provide a new view on a familiar scene. With a bird box camera, wildlife lovers don’t just get a new view on their favourite backyard visitors;

they can also share it with others. These clever garden gadgets make a wonderful gift because they capture high quality footage of nesting behaviours which can be viewed as many times as you like without causing any harm to wildlife.

4. Wall Planter

Know a gardener whose ambition is bigger than their backyard? Treat them to an attractive wall planter. Vertical planters are a great way to take advantage of the outdoor space that’s rarely used such as along exterior walls and fences.

They make normally bare surfaces look exciting and they expand the limits of a garden. With a household nail or two, your favourite cultivator could find a whole new dimension in their backyard.

5. Digital Thermometer

If you’re browsing cool gifts for gardeners, consider a digital thermometer. For passionate growers, it’s extremely handy to have such instant information on outdoor temperatures.

Growing tomatoes, for example, is relatively easy but difficult to do well if you can’t control temperature and humidity. Most plants thrive within a narrow set of growing conditions so a digital thermometer can be the key to a successful yield.

6. Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker

Outdoor speakers are popular gadgets because they offer users the opportunity to add an extra dimension to a backyard space. If you enjoy spending time outdoors as much as anywhere else, it makes sense to ‘upgrade’ the environment and add home comforts.

You may be more concerned with how the speakers look – many products are designed to blend in with outdoor features – but we say waterproofing is more important. Make sure outdoor speakers can withstand rain, wind and intense sunshine.

7. Garden Rocking Chair

Rocking chairs are more special than most of us realise. Their therapeutic benefits include relief from lower back pain, support during pregnancy, post-surgery recovery and even help with anxieties caused by dementia and ADHD. Rocking chairs are wonderful.

Treat your favourite gardener to an outdoor rocking chair with a chunky, broad back and advise them to place it in their sunniest spot. You an even get tandem, two person rocking chairs for the couple you love most

8. Log Burning Patio Heater

We think of patio heaters as being static and still but some of the best feature roaring coal fired burners. The most obvious advantage of a log burning patio heater, over an electric version, is it emits more light and heat.

While these natural burners do require more work – the heater must be regularly topped up while in use – they provide a rustic aesthetic which can’t be achieved any other way. If you want ambience at your next cookout, a log burning patio heater is the best choice.

9. Backyard Hammock

Modern hammocks come in a huge variety of shapes and styles. These days, contemporary versions don’t even need to be tied to trees. There are plenty of freestanding backyard hammocks out there for those who want comfort without effort. For many years, sleep specialists have called hammocks the perfect place to take a nap. Pick one up as a gift for your gardening friend and give them a taste of true relaxation.

10. Grow Your Own Hot Chillies Gift Set

We think cool gifts for gardeners definitely includes products which help people get accustomed to growing. Is there anything better than giving the gift of a new experience and, potentially, a lifelong hobby?

With a Grow Your Own Hot Chillies Gift Set, you can throw a friend in at the deep end. Teach them how to grow exciting vegetables and test their metal with cayenne, jalapeno, habanero, naga jolokia seeds.

11. Weed Puller

Weed pullers are valuable gadgets for gardeners who battle uninvited guests on a regular basis but don’t want to rely on pesticides. Not only are they effective without the use of chemicals, but they also reduce effort and strain. With no need to bend over to uproot weeds, there’s less pressure on the back and a lesser risk of aches and pains. Just push the weed puller into the ground (over the top of a weed), twist and lift. It couldn’t be easier.

12. Backyard Herb Growing Kit

Most herb growing kits are designed for use indoors because herbs can be sensitive to environmental changes. In their early stages, they need protection from unsuitably low and high temperatures.

Luckily, for those with little space for growing indoors, there are a variety of backyard growing kits as well. We recommend buying a kit with a covered seed tray or planters, so the user has some control over conditions.

 13. Garden Fire Pit

Like log burning patio heaters, garden fire pits require more care and maintenance than electric heaters. The benefits, however, are worth this extra effort.

Fire pits can be used all year round, they don’t affect household power bills, they’re great for entertaining guests and you can cook on them too. Several studies have discovered fire – particularly watching fire – causes calm feelings and reduced blood pressure.

14. Digital Weather Station

Digital weather stations are cool gifts for gardeners because they provide additional insight into the ‘life’ of an outdoor space. Planning a family barbecue? You can check the weather readings to see if your garden (and its climate) approves.

These handy little gadgets give information on humidity, temperature, barometric pressure, rainfall, wind speed and more. The best part is you don’t have to rely on the weather for your area. You can get readings from your garden, specifically, which is as accurate as it gets.

15. Solitary Beehive

Insect lovers are bound to go wild for a solitary beehive this gifting season. Solitary bees are common in household gardens but still virtually unrecognised.

As a result, populations are under threat. Installing solitary beehives in gardens is a great way to help. So, look for a beehive product with deep tubes. Ideally, they should be at least 100mm to give the bees plenty of room for nesting and growing larvae.

16. Gardening Multi-Tool

The garden multi-tool comes in many different forms much like any DIY or home renovation gadget. Like DIY tools with interchangeable heads, these products are designed to do the work of four, five or more devices.

For instance, most gardening multi-tools come with detachable heads for pruning, cutting, sawing, shearing and trimming. When you’re done with one task, just swap the head and start a new one. They’re particularly useful for gardeners with limited space in the shed.

17. Gardening Tool Gift Set

Gardeners who take pride in their work, who ponder over edges and ruminate over colour arrangements, might appreciate a gardening tool gift set. The term ‘gift set’ can mean many different things in a gardening context.

However, we think the most useful tool sets are ones which include, as a minimum, a mini shovel, a hand weeding knife, a spray bottle, pruning shears and a small hand rake.

18. Window Electric Heated Propagator

Heated propagators are another great choice for busy gardeners or beginners who are just starting to learn about growing. They are a very low maintenance way to raise plants (particularly herbs) because the self-watering tray delivers the perfect amount of moisture at all times.

Plus, there’s a small heater in the base which maintains a constant, uniform temperature (normally between 16-21°). Window electric heated propagator gadgets make growing as easy as possible; light, heat and moisture are all guaranteed.

19. Safety Rigger Gardening Boots

Safety boots might not look like cool gifts for gardeners, but we think staying safe is very cool so we’re putting them on our list. Safety rigger gardening boots are essential for anybody carrying out heavy duty tasks in unpredictable weather.

If you’ve got a gardening pal who’s constantly up and down ladders, this gift is a reminder to take care. The best rigger boots have grippy tractioned soles, roomy uppers and plenty of waterproofing.

20. Gardening Tool Belt

What’s the point in having all the cool garden gadgets but no way to tote them around the backyard. Make sure your favourite gardener is superbly supplied with a robust garden tool belt. The best tool belts don’t just look pretty;

they’re rugged and capable of withstanding heavy rain, howling wind, soil, thorns, prolonged exposure to the sun and your own weaknesses when you accidentally leave them in the yard overnight. Some belts tie (with fabric straps) at the back but we think the ones with clip together belts are more secure

21. Elbow Length Gardening Gloves

There’s nothing like a pair of super long ‘gauntlet’ gloves for a mammoth pruning session. In fact, when you’re dealing with brambles or thorns, elbow lengths are really the only suitable choice. We recommend soft lined interiors with thick synthetic leather exteriors.

Ideally, you want the outside to be as tough as the inside is soft. Some of our favourite gloves on the market include a small section of soft fabric on each outer thumb to ensure you can comfortably mop your brow or scratch your nose.

22. Gardening Secateurs Set

‘Secateurs’ is a fancy name for pruning shears. The best of them come with strong, sharp steel blades for long time durability. The sharper the blade, the stronger the cut and the more action you can get out of regular gardening secateurs without teaming them with specially designed ratcheted versions.

When shopping, be aware there’s many different types of secateurs. Bypass secateurs are like strong scissors. Anvil secateurs, on the other hand, are much tougher and can be used to cut thick branches.

23. Gardeners First Aid Kit

Practical, protective items make good gifts for gardeners because, due to the rough and muddy nature of their hobby, they like to be prepared for anything. A gardeners first aid kit, for example, isn’t very exciting but it is very useful.

Most of these kits are small, so they can be carried in an apron or tool belt, and include bandages, band aids, medical gloves, scissors, tweezers and eye wash. Some first aid kits also contain insect repelling wipes or spray.

24. Compost Tumbler

Older gardeners who are keen to keep up with eco-friendly composting habits might appreciate a compost tumbler. Instead of requiring gardeners to manually turn the compost with a fork, compost tumblers have a round barrel and a lever for effortless rotating.

By removing the need for manual force, these gadgets enable every type of gardener – old, young, tall, short – to create high quality compost in half the time. As the tumbler drums are fully enclosed, they also contain odours and make composting a less stinky task.

25. Garden Vacuum

When you’ve got a large garden, keeping it neat and tidy isn’t always easy. So, pick up a garden vacuum for a friend with a lot of space. Garden vacuums are pretty similar to leaf blowers in shape and design. In fact, many products can be used as leaf blowers as well.

When vacuuming, leaves and debris get sucked up through the spout and mulched in a shredder compartment. This compartment is then manually emptied like a mower. With one of these, there’s no need for repetitive raking and bagging in the winter.

With a kitchen aero garden hydroponic herb grower, essential irrigation, oxygenation and fertilisation processes are all automated. Just plant the herb or veggie seeds, place the device on a windowsill, pick the right settings and watch your plants grow indoors with almost no intervention. This is indoor growing taken to the next level.

27. Gardening Knee Pads

Most gardeners don’t mind getting muddy. It’s part of the job. When your lawn is uneven, however, or you’re working close to thorns or gravel, a bit of extra protection is necessary.

Gardening knee pads supply that protection by providing users with cushioned pads to be strapped directly onto the knees. Obviously, the thicker the padding, the softer the kneeling surface but don’t forget to look for robust waterproofing as well.

 28. Mobile Potting Table

The biggest benefit of having a potting table is it takes away the need to bend and stoop low to the ground. Instead of crouching to plant seeds, you can do it at a comfortable height on a wipe clean surface.

The best potting tables also have plenty of storage spaces for soil, pots, seeds, twine and other gardening accessories. Mobile potting tables are a little rarer but, if you get one with wheeled feet, you can move it about the deck or patio.

29. Digital Soil Tester

You might be surprised at how affordable soil testing equipment has become. Alongside professional grade gadgets, there are now lots of lower priced DIY devices. These affordable testers have fewer fancy features, but they work just as effectively.

Just insert the sensor probe (on the bottom of the device) into soil to get detailed readings on PH levels, sunlight exposure and moisture content. The more a gardener knows about these conditions, the easier it is to adapt them to suit specific types of plants.

30. Robot Lawn Mower

If there’s a gardener in your life you really love, think about treating them to a robot lawn mower. Yes, you heard that right. We’ve reached peak garden gadget. These very clever machines don’t come cheap. They are very impressive though, with completely automated functions and the ability to mow an entire lawn using sophisticated mapping technologies.

Robot mowers are smart enough to anticipate and avoid obstacles and can even be programmed to start up (without help) when weather conditions are perfect for grass cutting.

31. Garden Scarecrow

Tired of the birds preying on your vegetable patch? Get yourself a garden scarecrow to give them a fright when they turn up uninvited. We all love wildlife and want to help with their protection but, sometimes, parts of the garden need to be off limits.

Scarecrows are a fun and inexpensive way to discourage crop predators and some carnivorous birds such as sparrow hawks which actually prey on smaller garden birds. Most garden scarecrows are easy to install; they come with a pole that simply needs pushing into the ground.

32. Encyclopaedia of Garden Plants

No gardener’s arsenal is complete without a trusted encyclopaedia of garden plants. There are many different options out there, of varying depths and degrees, so it really depends on how much detail you’d like to hand.

Foragers, for instance, may need the most detailed of encyclopaedias because they must routinely distinguish between edible and toxic plant species. Although, do be aware that the bigger the book, the harder it will be to carry it while gardening. Again, foragers need lots of reliable information, but their encyclopaedias should also be reasonably transportable.

33. Gardeners Skin Care Gift Sets

Give your favourite gardener the gift of gorgeous skin this year with a gardener’s skin care gift set. These practical (but fancy looking) products use enriching ingredients like shea butter to create super nourishing hand creams and balms.

If you pick out a gift set with mini lotions, they’ll fit snugly in the pocket of their gardening tool belt. Just because you work close to the soil, doesn’t mean you have to settle for rough, rugged hands.
